Water Pump: Service and Repair

1.

Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.

2.

Disconnect power steering pump reservoir from upper fan shroud and remove upper shroud.

3.

Remove necessary drive belts, fan and pulley.

4.

Disconnect radiator and heater hose and position aside.

5.

Remove bolts securing pump and the pump.

6.

Thoroughly clean old sealant from block sealing surface, retaining bolts and bolt holes.

7.

Apply a continuous bead of RTV sealer, 1/8 inch wide, to pump sealing surface and apply suitable sealer to retaining bolt threads.

8.

Install pump, torque retaining bolts to 15 ft. lbs. on 1985 models, or 22 ft. lbs. on 1986-87 models, then reverse remaining procedure to complete
installation.
