1.
Remove water pump as described under ``Water Pump, Replace.''

On 1982-86 models, remove A/C compressor and bracket, if equipped, and position aside.
3.
Remove torsional damper, then disconnect lower radiator hose from front cover and the heater hose from water pump.
4.
Remove remaining front cover attaching bolts and stud, then the front cover.
5.
Reverse procedure to install. On 1982-83 models, clean engine block and front cover mating surfaces of oil, water and old gasket sealer. Apply
RTV and anaerobic sealer as shown in Fig. 8. On 1984-87 models, clean engine block and front cover mating surfaces of oil, water and old gasket.
Install new gasket and apply RTV sealant as shown in Fig. 9.On 1982 models, torque M8 x 1.25 bolts to 13-18 ft. lbs. and M10 x 1.5 bolts to
20-30 ft. lbs. On 1983-87 models, torque front cover bolts to 13-22 ft. lbs. and front cover studs to 19-24 ft. lbs.
