Defroster Actuator

A/C System - Manual

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the instrument panel. 
2. Disconnect the vacuum hose connector.

2.1. Slide the tab out of the connector past the L-shaped bend in the actuator vacuum tube.
2.2. Slide the hose connector off of the tube while you continue to hold the tab back against the connector end.

3. Remove the vacuum hose connector at the center outlet duct actuator and/or the defroster valve actuator.
4. Remove the center outlet duct actuator and/or the defroster valve actuator, if necessary.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the center outlet duct actuator and/or the defroster valve actuator, if necessary.
2. Install the vacuum hose connector(s).
3. Install the black hose to the center outlet duct actuator and/or the black/tan hose to the defroster valve actuator.
4. Connect the vacuum hose connector.

4.1. Bend back the tab of the connector flush against the end of the connector.
4.2. Hold the tab in place while you slip the tab and the connector onto the vacuum actuator tube.
4.3. When the connector is fully seated, pull the tab over the L-shaped bend in the tube in order to hold the connector in place.

5. Install the instrument panel.

A/C System - Automatic

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the left side instrument panel sound insulator.  See: Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Instrument Cluster / Carrier/Service

and Repair 

2. Disconnect the park brake release cable from the park brake assembly. 
3. Remove the knee bolster. 
4. Remove the center instrument panel sound insulator. 
5. Remove the vacuum connectors from the defroster valve.
6. Remove the defroster valve from the heater case.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the defroster valve if removed.
2. Install the vacuum connectors to the defroster valve.
3. Install the center instrument panel sound insulator. 
4. Install the knee bolster. 
5. Connect the park brake release cable from the park brake assembly. 
6. Install the left side instrument panel sound insulator.
