NOTE: Angle must not exceed 12.5 deg.
5. Install attaching screws through cover and seal to dash panel.
6. Connect electrical connectors and install steering wheel, then connect transmission linkage and battery ground cable.
Intermediate Steering Shaft
INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACEMENT
Intermediate Shaft Installation
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

Set the front wheels in the straight ahead position and the steering wheel in the "LOCKED" position.

Mark the intermediate shaft pot joint yoke to steering shaft and the rag joint yoke to the steering gear input shaft relationship to be sure of proper
installation.
1. Shield (19) from intermediate shaft (12).
2. Nut (17) and bolt (16) from upper pot joint.
3. Bolt (15) from lower rag joint.
4. Intermediate shaft assembly (12) by sliding shaft up (towards dash) to get rag joint yoke to clear steering gear input shaft.
5. Slide intermediate shaft (12) down off the upper steering column shaft (18). This may require the use of a small hammer tapping on the yoke to
free it from the shaft.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Upper end of intermediate shaft (12) onto upper steering column shaft (18).
2. Lower end of intermediate shaft (12) onto steering gear worm shaft. Align marks made at removal.
3. Bolt (15) to lower rag joint.
4. Bolt (16) and nut (17) to upper pot joint.
TIGHTEN

Nut (17) and bolt (16) to 64 Nm (47 lbs. ft.).

Pinch bolt (15) to 30 Nm (22 lbs. ft.).
5. Shield (19) over intermediate shaft (12).
