Pitman Shaft Seal Replacement On Vehicle

J 4245 Internal Snap Ring Pliers

J 6219 Pitman Shaft Seal Installer
Removal Procedure
1. Remove the pitman arm.
2. Remove the snap ring (1) using J 4245.
3. Remove the following components from the power steering gear (1):
3.1.
The dust seal (5)
3.2.
The return ring (4)
3.3.
The washer (3)
3.4.
The pitman shaft oil seal (2)
4. Inspect the Pitman shaft surface for roughness or pitting. Replace the pitman shaft if the shaft is pitted.
5. Clean the pitman shaft and seal areas using a wire brush.
