Some 1985 Monte Carlos with 4.3L engines may exhibit an engine surge condition when the cruise control is operating. This condition is more
noticeable at low speeds.
Many items can cause a cruise control surge condition, so a general cruise system inspection should be made first. Some things to look for are:
1.
Proper cruise control cable routing (no kinks or sharp bends.)
2.
Proper cruise control cable adjustment.
3.
Vacuum hoses to accumulator or servo leaking or restricted.
4.
Binding speedometer cable.
Refer to the 1985 Shop Manual for specifications on Items #1 and #2.
A new cruise control module (P/N 25031946) is available to repair the surge condition. Early production vehicles used P/N 25031953.
A road test should be performed to verify that the surge condition has been repaired.
Use applicable labor operation.
