Date: February 06, 2009
Subject:
Rear Air Conditioning Inoperative (Replace A/C Line / Re-Route Positive Battery Cable)
Models:
2005-2007 Chevrolet Express
2005-2007 GMC Savana
Cargo and Passenger Vans Equipped with Rear A/C (RPO C69)
Condition
Some customers may comment that the rear A/C is inoperative. Upon further investigation, a technician may find the rear A/C suction line leaking.
Cause
This condition may be caused by the A/C suction line contacting the positive battery cable. Over time, the positive battery cable insulation may rub
through, exposing the A/C suction line to direct contact with the cable. This contact may cause a hole in the A/C suction line.
Correction
1. Verify that the rear A/C is inoperative. Refer to Air Conditioning (A/C) System Performance Test in SI.
2. If this condition is found, inspect the positive battery cable and insulation for damage (1) by the A/C suction line (2).
3. Repair the positive battery cable by adding insulation (1) (Shrinking tube and Electrical Tape). Place conduit (plastic insulation) over the repair and
add electrical tape as shown in the figure above.
4. Replace the A/C line if necessary. Refer to Suction Hose Replacement in SI.
