Crankshaft Seal Retainer: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Replacement

Removal Procedure

Important:  Do not remove the crankshaft rear oil seal housing if only replacing the crankshaft rear oil seal.

1. Remove the oil pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement  (See: Engine Lubrication/Oil Pan/Service and Repair) .
2. Remove the engine flywheel. Refer to Engine Flywheel Replacement  (See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Flex Plate/Service and Repair) .
3. Remove the housing bolts and nut.
4. Remove the housing.

5. Remove and discard the housing gasket.
6. Clean all the sealing surfaces.
7. Inspect and replace the housing for warping, cracks, wear, or damage.
