Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair

To replace Throttle Position Sensor it is necessary to remove the air horn assembly from the carburetor.

1.

Remove or disconnect electrical connectors from M/C solenoid and TPS assembly.

2.

Air horn removal:

a.

Remove upper choke lever from end of choke shaft by removing attaching screw.  Rotate upper choke lever to remove lever from choke link.

b.

Remove choke link from lower lever inside the float bowl casting.  Remove link by holding lower lever outward with small screwdriver and
twisting link counter-clockwise.

c.

Remove the retainer from the pump link, and remove link from lever.  DO NOT remove pump lever from air horn.

d.

Remove vacuum break hose from tube on float bowl.

e.

Remove air horn-to-bowl screws; then remove the two countersunk attaching screws located next to the venturi.

f.

Remove air horn from bowl by lifting it straight up. (Gasket should remain on float bowl).

3.

Remove solenoid-metering rod plunger by lifting straight up.

4.

Remove air horn gasket by lifting it from the bowl locating pins on the float bowl. DISREGARD GASKET.

5.

Remove float bowl insert.

6.

Remove metering rods and springs.

7.

Remove throttle position sensor by pushing up from bottom of electrical connector and remove TPS and connector assembly from bowl.

8.

Reverse procedure to install new TPS sensor using new air horn gasket.
