Air Vent Cut-Off diaphragm: Testing and Inspection
Fig.46 - Checking For Vacuum To Air Vent Cut-off Diaphragm
1. Disconnect hose at air vent cut-off diaphragm and install vacuum pump to hose, Fig. 46, then perform steps 2-4 for 1980-82 models except 1980
Civic.
2. Attempt to create vacuum. Vacuum should not be available.
3. Turn ignition switch ON.
4. Create vacuum. If vacuum is not available, check for leaks in hose connections. If vacuum is still not available, check for voltage at vacuum
holding solenoid valve. If voltage is available, replace vacuum holding solenoid valve and recheck.
5. For all 1980-82 models, start engine and let idle. If vacuum is not available, check for blockage in hose on 1980-82 models except Civic. On Civic
check hose connections between carburetor insulator block and vacuum holding valve for leaks or blockage. If vacuum is still not available,
replace vacuum holding solenoid valve and recheck.
6. For 1980-82 models except 1980 Civic, turn ignition OFF. Vacuum should drop to zero. Follow steps 7 & 8 for all 198O-82 models.
Fig.47 - Checking Air Vent Cut-off Diaphragm
7. Disconnect vacuum pump from vacuum holding valve hose and connect to air vent cut-off diaphragm, Fig. 47, then create a vacuum. If vacuum
decreases, replace diaphragm and recheck.
8. Remove vacuum pump and reconnect hose between air vent cut-off diaphragm and vacuum holding valve.
