Wheel Bearing: Adjustments

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle, then remove wheels, grease cap, cotter pin and pin holder.

2.

Torque spindle nut to 18 ft. lbs.

3.

Rotate drum or disc several revolutions, then loosen spindle nut.

4.

Torque spindle nut to 4 ft. lbs.

5.

Install pin holder so that slot is as close as possible to hole in spindle.

6.

Tighten spindle nut just enough to align pin holder slot with hole in spindle, then install cotter pin and grease cap.

7.

Check hub and drum assembly rotating torque with suitable spring scale. Ensure parking brake is fully released and that brakes are not
dragging.

8.

If rotating torque is not 0.9-4 lbs., check for improperly tightened spindle nut or damaged bearings and correct as needed.
