Water Leakage at Cowl (Supersedes 87-036, dated August 19, 1988)
PROBLEM
When parked uphill, water leaks onto the front carpet during a rainstorm or while washing the car.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Insufficient sealer under the front fender at the intersection of the cowl, wheelhouse and upper dash and along the wheelhouse and door frame seam.
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Raise the front of the car 12 inches.

Always use safety stands when working on or under any vehicle that is supported by only a jack.

Never attempt to use a bumper jack for lifting or supporting the car.
2.
Direct a stream of water at the lower corners of the front windshield.
3.
Remove the coin box and the glove box and check the upper corner of the instrument panel for leaking water.
If water is leaking into the passenger compartment, apply sealant as described under CORRECTIVE ACTION.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Remove the headlight garnish.
2.
Remove the side marker.
3.
Pull forward and out on the top edge of the bumper just below the side marker to free the bumper corner slide from the corner side clip.
