SYMPTOM
A creaking, metallic noise can be heard from the left side of the dashboard when the car is driven over a speed bump or a rough surface.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Contact between cowl sheet-metal edges, and/or between the cowl rain gutter and the body.
DIAGNOSIS
The noise can also be produced when the car is stationary. Flex the top and bottom of the steering wheel or firmly depress the brake pedal.
COWL COVER
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
Remove the windshield wiper arms and the cowl cover.
2.
Using a flat-head screwdriver, force apart the cowl sheet-metal edges located next to the driver's side windshield wiper post.
