Fast Idle Valve: Testing and Inspection
Fast Idle Control Solenoid Valve
Fuel Injected Engine
1985-86 Accord & 1986 Prelude
9 volts or more should be present between the black/yellow (+) terminal and blue/black (-) terminal of No. 1 control box wire harness when the valve
is activated.
1.
Disconnect No. 1 control box wire harness.
2.
Disconnect vacuum hose No. 23 to valve from vacuum manifold and apply vacuum to hose. Valve should hold vacuum.
3.
Continue applying vacuum to hose and briefly energize valve by connecting battery positive terminal to the black/yellow terminal of No. 1 control
box coupler and battery negative terminal to the orange terminal. Valve should not hold vacuum when energized.
4.
If fast idle solenoid valve fails to perform as outlined, valve is defective.
Carbureted Engine
1985-86 Accord & 1986 Prelude
9 volts or more should be present between the black/yellow (+) terminal and blue/black (-) terminal of No. 1 control box wire harness when the valve
is activated.

Disconnect No. 1 control box wire harness.
2.
Disconnect vacuum hose No. 23 to valve from vacuum manifold and apply vacuum to hose. Valve should hold vacuum.
3.
Continue applying vacuum to hose and briefly energize valve by connecting battery positive terminal to the black/yellow terminal of No. 1 control
box coupler and battery negative terminal to the orange terminal. Valve should not hold vacuum when energized.
4.
If fast idle solenoid valve fails to perform as outlined, valve is defective.
