Wind Noise from Dashboard Area (Supersedes 88-002, dated JAN 15, '88)
SYMPTOM
A wind noise (whistle) coming from under the right side of the dashboard while driving at highway speeds with the ventilation system in the recirculation
mode.
PROBABLE CAUSE
^
The blower recirculation doors are not completely closed, or . . .
^
The foam seal between the blower and the upper dashboard support is leaking.
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Remove the glove box door.
2.
Take an assistant with you, and drive the car until you reproduce the noise.
3.
Have your assistant push up on each of the blower recirculation doors with a long, thin blade, flat tip screwdriver. If the noise changes or is
eliminated, go to CORRECTIVE ACTION, step 1. If not, go to CORRECTIVE ACTION, step 2.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
1.
To adjust the rear door: With the blower in the REC mode, snap the threaded end of the recirculation control motor's linkage rod out of the plastic
clip on the rear door's linkage arm. Push the arm forward until it stops, and snap the rod back into the clip.
