Moonroof Wind Deflector Rattles
SYMPTOM
Rattling noise coming from the moonroof.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Insufficient tension on the wind deflector's hinge rivets.
DIAGNOSIS
Drive the car with the moonroof closed, and the sunshade pushed back. Determine whether the noise goes away when you hold down the wind deflector.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Increase the tension on the hinge rivets as needed.
1.
Remove the wind deflector.
2.
Check each side linkage for excessive side-to-side movement. Increase the tension only on the side that has excessive movement.
3.
Rest one end of the linkage's rivet on a solid surface. Carefully tap on the opposite end of the rivet with a hammer and drift punch. Make sure you
do not use too much force orthe hinge will bind.
4.
Recheck the tension on the linkage; it should be equal to the tension on the other side.
5.
Reinstalll the wind deflector.
