BODY
Outside Mirror Causes Wind Noise
SYMPTOM
Customer complains of wind noise at the front edge of the window.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Too much clearance between the outside mirror's housing and base.
DIAGNOSIS
1.
Test drive the car to verify the symptom.
2.
While initially test driving, fold the mirror back and note if the noise changes.
^
If there is no change, the problem is not with the mirror.
^
If it changes, go to step 3.
3.
Return the mirror to its normal position. Apply tape to the front of the mirror housing over the gap between the housing and the base. Drive the car
again to see if the wind noise has disappeared.
^
If not, use normal troubleshooting techniques to locate the cause.
^
If so, continue with CORRECTIVE ACTION.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Insert pieces of the foam material listed under REQUIRED MATERIALS in the gap between the housing and the base.
1.
Carefully pry off the interior cover panel with a flat-tip screwdriver.
