Sun Visor Damaged By Seat Belt (Supersedes 91-013, dated May 31, 1991)
PROBLEM
The sun visor can be pivoted in the path of the motorized seat belt. It may then be damaged when the belt moves forward.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Change the angle of the sun visor arms by installing a tapered shim between the arm and mounting plate on each sun visor.
1.
Remove the mounting screws from the base of the sun visor. Remove the sun visor.
2.
Use a flat blade screwdriver to pry the headliner away from the sun visor mounting plate. Insert the tapered shim, with the thickest part of the shim
toward the windshield, between the headliner and the mounting plate.
3.
Align the holes in the shim with the mounting plate holes. Reinstall the sun visor. Install a new sun visor if the original has been damaged by the
seat belt.
4.
Repeat steps 1-3 on the other sun visor.
