Sunroof - Rattle When Partially Open

Rattle From Partially Open Sunroof (Supersedes 91-017, dated May 24, 1991)
SYMPTOM
A rattling noise with the sunroof open 3 inches or more. It is most noticeable when driving over bumpy roads. Pushing up or pulling down on the glass
will temporarily silence the noise.
PROBABLE CAUSE
Excessive clearance between the sunroof glass front slider and the guide rail.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Reduce the clearance between the slider and the guide rail.
NOTE:
To protect the roof, apply masking tape to the area just in front of the sunroof opening.

Remove the sunroof glass as described in the service manual.
NOTE:
Have an assistant guide the sunroof glass out of the opening as you hand crank the glass forward.

With the sunroof glass out, take off the plastic piece covering the slider with a small screwdriver.
3.
Bend the leading section of the slider up about 15 degrees with a 6" crescent wrench.
4.
Reinstall the glass.

Open and close the sunroof a few times to make sure the glass moves freely. If it seems to drag or bind, bend the same slider back down a few
degrees.
6.
Test drive to make sure the noise is completely eliminated. If the noise persists, repeat the procedure.
