Drive Belt: Adjustments
Power Steering
NOTE:
-
If there are cracks or any damage evident on the belt, replace it with a new one.
-
When using a new belt, first adjust the deflection or tension to the values for a new belt, then run the engine for five minutes and readjust the
deflection or tension to the values for used belt.
Checking Belt Tension
1. Measure with Belt Tension Gauge:
Attach the belt tension gauge to the belt and measure the tension of the belt.
Tension:
Used Belt: 350 - 500 N ( 77 - 110 lbs)
New Belt: 700 - 900 N (154 - 198 lbs)
Measure deflection (alternate method):
Deflection:
New Belt: 9.5 - 11.5 mm (0.37 - 0.45 in)
Used Belt: 12.5 - 16.0 mm (0.50 - 0.62 in)
