Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Pulley Removal
1. Drain the fluid from the pump.
Pulley Nut Removal
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the pump housing with the jaws of the vise.
2. Hold the steering pump in a vise with soft jaws, and hold the pulley with the special tool and remove the pulley nut and pulley.
CAUTION: PULLEY NUT HAS LEFT-HAND THREADS.
Installation
1. Install the pulley key in the groove of the pump shaft.
2. Slide the pulley onto the pump shaft by aligning the groove of the pulley and pulley key.
3. Install the pump pulley with it flat surface facing out as shown.
Pulley Nut Removal
4. Hold the pulley with the special tool and tighten the pulley nut.
5. Check that the pump turns smoothly by turning the pulley.
