Power Steering Rack Seal Squeak
(Supersedes 92-004, dated February 7, 1992)
SYMPTOM
A squeak sounds like it is coming from the steering wheel or steering column area. It is usually heard when making a tight, low-speed, right-hand turn.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The right side steering rack end seal is not adequately lubricated.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
The corrective action to be used depends on the year and VIN of the vehicle. Use the charts to select the proper procedure.
NOTE:
Check the service history of the vehicle before proceeding with Corrective Action B or C. It may have already received a new rack end seal and/or
PSF-V power steering fluid.
CORRECTIVE ACTION A
Install PSF-V additive in the power steering system, and lubricate the pinion shaft.
