Brake Rotor/Disc: Testing and Inspection
Disc Thickness and Parallelism
Checking Thickness And Parallelism
1.
Remove the front wheels, and support the front of the car on safety stands.
NOTE: Install flat washers and wheel nuts to hold the disc. Torque to 110 Nm (11 kg-m, 80 lb-ft).
CAUTION:
Use wheel nuts and 3 mm thick flat washers to hold the disc securely and to obtain accurate measurements.
2.
Move the caliper and pads out of the way.
3.
Using a micrometer measure disc thickness at eight points, approximately 45° apart and 10 mm (0.4 in) in from the outer edge of the disc.
Brake Disc Thickness:
Sedan, coupe:
^ Standard: 22.9-23.0 mm (0.90-0.91 in)
Wagon:
^ Standard: 24.9-25.1mm (0.98-0.99 in)
^ Brake Disc Parallelism: 0.015 mm (0.0006 in) max.
NOTE: Parallelism is the maximum allowable difference between the thickness measurements.
4.
If the disc is beyond the limits for thickness or parallelism. refinish the rotor with an on-car brake lathe. The Kwik-Lathe produced by Kwik-Way
Manufacturing Co. and the "Front Brake Disc Lathe" offered by Snap-on Tools Co. are approved for this operation.
Max: Refinishing Limit: 21.0 mm (0.83 in)
