Assembly

1. Apply vinyl tape to stepped portion of pinion shaft, then coat tape surface with power steering fluid.
2. Install back-up ring with tapered side facing pinion shaft.
3. Coat inside surface of new valve oil seal with power steering fluid, then slide valve oil seal over pinion shaft, being careful not to damage sealing

lip.

4. Apply vinyl tape to splines and stepped portion of shaft, then coat tape surface with power steering fluid.
5. Fit new O-ring in groove of pinion shaft, then slide new valve seal ring over shaft and groove of pinion shaft.
6. Remove tape from pinion shaft, then apply power steering fluid to surface of valve seal ring installed on pinion shaft.
7. Apply power steering fluid to inside of valve seal ring sizing tool No. 07NAG-SR30900, or equivalent, then set larger diameter end of special tool

over valve seal ring.

8. Move seal ring sizing tool up and down several times to make valve seal ring fit in pinion shaft, then remove tool.
9. Turn seal ring sizing tool over and set smaller diameter end of tool over valve seal ring. Move seal ring sizing tool up and down several times to

make valve seal ring fit snugly in pinion shaft.

10. Apply power steering fluid to surface of seal ring sizing tool. Set new seal rings over tool from smaller diameter end of tool, then expand seal

rings. Do two rings at a time from each end of sleeve, noting the following:
a. Do not over expand seal ring.
b. Install resin seal rings with care to avoid damage. After installation, ensure contraction of seal rings, using seal ring sizing tool No.

07NAG-SR30900, or equivalent.

c. There are two types of sleeve seal rings: black and brown. Do not mix the different types of sleeve seal rings as they are not compatible.

11. Set ball joint boot clip guide tool No. 07974-SA50800, or equivalent, in grooves in sleeve, then set each ring in each groove securely. After

installation, temporarily compress seal rings with fingers.

12. Apply power steering fluid to seal rings on sleeve, then to entire inside surface of sleeve seal ring sizing tool No. 07974-SA50200, or equivalent,

then insert sleeve into tool.

13. Move sleeve each direction several times to ensure seal rings fit snugly in sleeve. Ensure seal rings are not turned up.
14. Apply power steering fluid to surface of pinion shaft, then assemble sleeve over pinion shaft, noting the following:

a. Be careful not to damage valve seal ring when inserting sleeve.
b. Align locating pin on inside of sleeve with cutout in shaft.
c. Install new circlip, tapered side facing out, securely in pinion shaft groove.

15. Apply power steering fluid to seal ring lip of valve oil seal, then install seal in valve housing using suitable hydraulic press, driver tool No.

07749-0010000 and attachment tool No. 07746-0.010100, or equivalents. Install valve oil seal with grooved side facing tool.

16. Press new roller bearing into valve housing using suitable hydraulic press and attachment tool. Place roller bearing on valve housing with stamped

letter facing up toward valve side.

17. Apply vinyl tape to pinion shaft, then coat vinyl tape with power steering fluid.
18. Insert pinion shaft into valve housing, being careful not to damage valve seal rings.
19. Remove tape, then press pinion shaft/sleeve using suitable hydraulic press. Before inserting pinion shaft, ensure back-up ring is centered with

pinion shaft bearing.

20. Check pinion shaft/sleeve turns smoothly by turning pinion shaft.
21. Install valve body unit.
