Install collar "A" and remeasure the clearance.

NOTE:

If you determine that an "A" collar is not thick enough, install a different "A" collar, push in on the shaft while you tighten the control lever mounting
bolt, and then remeasure. If the measurement still exceeds 0.45 mm (0.018 in.), install an "AA" collar. [NEW]

10.

Reinstall the control lever on the shift control shaft with the new lock washer. Torque the bolt to 14 N-m (10 lb-ft). Bend over the locking tab on
the lock washer.

11.

Install the shift cable holder onto the shift cable cover with the two original bolts. Torque the bolts to 9.8 N-m (7.2 lb-ft). [NEW]

12.

Place the shift cable cover against the transmission. Check the alignment of the mounting holes in the cover with the threaded holes in the
transmission. [NEW]

If all three holes are in alignment, install the mounting bolts and torque them to 26 N-m (20 lb-ft). Then continue to step 13. [NEW]

If you have to push the cover forward or backward to bring the holes into alignment, the shift cable may be out of adjustment. Install the
mounting bolts and torque them to 26 N-m (20 lb-ft). Then continue to step 13. [NEW]

13.

Inspection of shift cable adjustment and ignition key removal: Lower the vehicle. Drive the vehicle to warm it up, then check the operation of the
console shift lever by shifting from Park to Drive to Park several times. Each time you place the shift lever in Park, verify that the ignition switch
can easily be turned to LOCK and the key removed. If it is difficult to remove the key from the ignition switch, adjust the shift cable. Refer to page
14-129 of the service manual. [NEW]

14.

Center-punch a completion mark above the first character (1) of the engine compartment VIN.
