Poor Radio Reception

SYMPTOM

Poor radio reception, with static, noticed mostly on the AM band. The customer may complain that the reception is worse than when the car was new.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Corrosion on the antenna's coaxial connector in the back of the audio unit.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Clean the coaxial connector.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Check the following items (refer to the June '96 ServiceNews):

^

A cellular telephone antenna attached to the rear window. A cellular antenna installed over the antenna grid will cause noise and reception
problems.

^

Window tinting. Some window tints contain metal, which will cause reception problems.

^

Broken lines in the antenna grid in the upper part of the rear window.

2.

Remove the audio unit from the dashboard.

3.

Disconnect the antenna lead.
