Trunk Will Not Open With the Remote Transmitter 
(Supersedes 98-062, dated March 7, 2000)

* SYMPTOM

Pressing the trunk release button on the remote transmitter does not open the trunk.

PROBABLE CAUSES

The car comes with two transmitters. If the customer purchases a third transmitter and has it programmed into the system, it will not work as
expected. The first time, it will open the trunk on the first push of the button. After that, the button must be pushed twice before the trunk will open.
This is normal and cannot be changed. It does not affect the operation of the other two transmitters.

The customer may have been sold a 2000 model year remote transmitter as a third transmitter or as a replacement. A 2000 transmitter will open the
doors, but not the trunk.

The MPCU (multiplex control unit) on the passenger's side has an internal failure. *

VEHICLES AFFECTED

* CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace any 2000 model year remote transmitters.

Replace the passenger's side MPCU. *
