Starter Motor: Service and Repair

1. On models equipped with radio coded theft protection system, refer to Vehicle Damage Warnings for system disarming and arming

procedures. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then wait at least three minutes before continuing procedure.
3. Disconnect positive battery cable.
4. Remove engine wire harness.
5. Remove radiator lower hose from bracket on starter motor.
6. Disconnect all electrical leads at starter.
7. Remove starter mounting bolts, then the starter.
8. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Ensure crimped side of ring terminal is facing out when installing starter cable.
b. Torque starter mounting bolts to 32 ft. lbs.

9. On models equipped with radio coded theft protection system, refer to Vehicle Damage Warnings for system disarming and arming

procedures. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
