Damaged Rear Speaker
(Supersedes 92-024, dated November 6, 1992)
PROBLEM [NEW]
The speaker connectors face the rear of the car and can be easily damaged by cargo during loading or driving.
CORRECTIVE ACTION [NEW]
^
The left speaker harness, when properly routed through the speaker opening in the rear shelf, is long enough to allow for speaker rotation so the
connector terminals are more protected.
^
The replacement speakers have an attached (pigtail) subharness that allows for enough speaker rotation so the connector terminals can face the front
of the car.
^
Cushion tape is included to tape the connector in place.
^
In any case, order the replacement speaker with the pigtail (see PARTS INFORMATION). The old type speaker, without the pigtail, will not allow
the right speaker to be rotated. The connector terminals may be subject to damage again and result in a comeback.
[NEW] If only the left rear speaker is damaged, perform this procedure.
1.
Remove the damaged left speaker.
2.
Remove and transfer the undamaged right speaker to the left side.
3.
To protect it from future damage by cargo, rotate the undamaged speaker so the connector terminals face the front of the car.
4.
Install the replacement speaker with the pigtail (see PARTS INFORMATION) on the right side with the connector terminals facing the front of the
car.
