Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments

NOTE: On carbureted engines, idle mixture adjustment should only be performed after diagnosis has revealed no other faults, or if carburetor has been
overhauled. A propane enrichment tool is necessary to accurately adjust idle mixture.

1.

Disconnect hot-air door diaphragm vacuum hose and plug the end of the hose.

On all models, disconnect air intake tube from air intake duct.

3.

Insert hose of propane enrichment kit into intake tube approximately 4 inches. Ensure propane bottle has adequate supply of gas.

With engine at idle, depress push-button on top of propane device, then slowly open propane control valve to obtain maximum engine speed. 
Open propane control valve slowly. A sudden burst of propane may cause engine to stall.

If engine speed does not increase as specified in chart, proceed to step 7. If engine speed increases as specified, proceed to step 11.

Close propane control valve, then remove concealment plug from carburetor. Refer to ``Fuel & ignition'' section.

Start engine and warm to operating temperature.

Disconnect and plug vacuum hose from intake air control valve diaphragm.

9.

Recheck maximum propane enriched RPM. If speed is too low, turn mixture screw 1/4 turn clockwise and recheck. If speed is too high, turn
mixture screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise and recheck.

10.

On models with manual transmission, close propane control valve and recheck idle speed. Run engine at 2500 RPM for 10 seconds to stabilize
condition. If idle speed is as specified, procedure is finished. If idle speed is not as specified, adjust by turning throttle stop screw.

11.

On models with automatic transaxle, start engine and raise engine speed to 2500 RPM 2 or 3 times in 10 seconds, then check idle speed. If idle
speed is as specified, adjust by turning throttle stop screw.
