Adjustment of Low Altitude Cars to Reduce Emissions
The EPA requires all vehicle manufacturers to make available "to service outlets and the general public," instructions for improving emission control
performance on all Low Altitude cars that are normally driven at high altitudes (over 4000 feet). Each adjusted car must be identified by a label applied
to the underside of the hood next to the Emission Control Information Label.
ADJUSTMENT INSTRUCTIONS AND LABELS
If you are a high altitude dealer, you'll find adjustment instructions attached for the Low Altitude '85 1.3 and 1.5 Civic, and the Low Altitude '85 Accord.
If one of your customers wants instructions, you can either make him a copy (and give him a label if he's going to make the adjustment himself), or call
or write us, and we'll mail you a label and the appropriate instructions.
Adjustment instructions for 1985 Low Altitude cars are also in the Fuel Section of applicable Service Manuals. If you are a low altitude dealer, you will

IDENTIFICATION
After a car has been adjusted, you must apply an update label to the hood, next to the Emission Control Information Label. A Civic hood is shown
below; the Emission Control Information Label is in a slightly different location on an Accord. If you need more labels, just call us and we'll mail them
to you.
Adjustments to Reduce Emissions on 1985 Low Altitude Cars Driven at High Altitude
In accordance with EPA regulations, you may make only the following adjustments on any 1985 Accord, 1.3 Civic, or 1.5 Civic HF, originally sold at
low altitude, outside of California, that is normally driven at high altitude (above 4000 feet). Do not make this adjustment on any other cars. The
adjustment requires turning the idle mixture screw 1/2 turn in. To do it, you'll have to remove the carburetor to take off the plate (throttle controller
bracket) covering the mixture screw.
WARNING:
Some gasoline will leak out of the carburetor, so do not smoke or work near a heater or other device with an open flame while making
this adjustment.

Mark all hoses connected to the air cleaner, disconnect them, then remove the air cleaner.
2.
Mark all vacuum hoses (black rubber) connected to the carburetor, then disconnect them.
