Engine Splash Shield Knocks Off the A/C Belt
SYMPTOM
The A/C system does not cool because the compressor belt has come off.
PROBABLE CAUSE
The engine splash shield may go over a parking lot stop when the car is driven into a parking space. When the driver then backs the car up, the splash
shield may catch on the stop, which causes the splash shield to flex. The splash shield comes in contact with the A/C compressor belt, knocking it off the
pulleys.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Modify the splash shield to improve flexibility. If the existing splash shield is damaged, modify a new splash shield and install it.
1.
Remove the engine splash shield.
2.
Inspect the splash shield for damage. If it is no longer usable, obtain a new one (see PARTS INFORMATION) before proceeding.
