Fast Idle Unloader: Testing and Inspection
Fast Idle Unloader

Cold Engine

1.

Disconnect two hoses from fast idle unloader.

2.

Open and close throttle to engage fast idle cam.

3.

Start engine. Engine should operate at fast idle. If engine runs at fast idle, proceed to step 4. If engine does not operate at fast idle, remove choke
cover and check operation of fast idle cam.

4.

Connect a hand vacuum pump to inside fitting of unloader and apply vacuum. Fast idle speed should drop. If idle speed drops, proceed to ``Hot
Engine'' check. If idle speed does not drop, check unloader for leaks, blockage or damaged diaphragm. Remove choke cover and check unloader
rod for free movement, repair or replace as necessary.

Hot Engine
    When engine reaches normal operating temperature, idle speed should drop below 1400 RPM as unloader pulls the internal choke linkage off fast idle
cam. If fast idle drops below 1400 RPM, then refer to ``Fast Idle, Adjust'' in the tune up section. If fast idle does not drop, proceed as follows:

Disconnect the two unloader hoses, and check for vacuum. If vacuum is present, proceed to step 2.

If no vacuum is present, check thermovalves and hoses, and repair or replace as necessary.

3.

If vacuum is present, check unloader for leaks or blockage. Remove choke cover, and check unloader rod for free movement, repair or replace
parts as necessary.
