Clutch: Adjustments

    On 1988 Prelude models, a hydraulic clutch control system is used. This system does not require release arm free play adjustment. The clutch pedal
can be adjusted as noted in steps 3 and 4.

1.

Turn cable adjusting nut located on cable casing near transaxle, Fig. 1, until freeplay at release arm is 13/64 - 1/4 inch on Accord and 1984-87
Prelude models or 5/32 - 13/64 inch on all other models.

After adjusting release arm freeplay, check clutch pedal height at the clutch release point and clutch pedal freeplay. It may be necessary to pull
back carpet to obtain accurate pedal release height measurement.

Minimum pedal height above floor at clutch release point should be as follows:
1984-85 Accord..................... 3.4 inches
1986 Accord.......................... 2.9 inches
1987-88 Accord..................... 2.3 inches
1984-87 Civic Exc. Wagon..... 3.3 inches
1984-87 Civic Wagon............ 3.1 inches
1985-87 CRX........................ 2.4 inches
1988 Civic & CRX................... 2.76 inches
1988 Civic Wagon................... 2.4 inches
1984-85 Prelude..................... 1.85 inches
1986 Prelude......................... 3.4 inches
1987-88 Prelude..................... 3.6 inches

4.

Clutch pedal free travel should be as follows:
1984-85 Accord..................... 7/8 - 1 1/8 inches
1986-88 Accord..................... .6 - 1 inch
1984-86 Civic...................... .4 - 1.18 inches
1987-88 Civic...................... .6 - .8 inch
1984-87 CRX........................ .4 - 1.18 inches
1988 CRX........................... .6 - .8 inch
1984-85 Prelude.................... 7/8 - 1 1/8 inches
1986-87 Prelude.................... .6 - 1 inch
1988 Prelude....................... .04 - .28 inch

If specified clearances cannot be obtained, inspect clutch and release mechanism and repair as needed.
