Thermal Vacuum Valve: Testing and Inspection
4WD Wagon

Engine Cold
    Engine coolant temperature should be below 104 degrees F.

1.

Pinch lower vacuum hose from the vacuum control valve, then disconnect upper vacuum hose from the air control valve B in control Box No. 2.

2.

Start engine and quickly raise engine speed to 3,500 RPM, then close throttle suddenly several times.

3.

If vacuum is not present, proceed to ``Engine Hot'' test. If vacuum is present, replace thermovalve D and repeat test.

Engine Hot

1.

Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature, then raise engine speed to 3,500 RPM and close throttle suddenly. Repeat several times.

2.

If vacuum is present, proceed to step 4. If vacuum is not present, disconnect vacuum hoses No. 19 and 20 from vacuum control valve and check
for vacuum.

3.

If vacuum is present at hoses No. 19 and 20, replace vacuum control valve and repeat test. If vacuum is not present at hose No. 19, replace
thermovalve D and repeat test. If vacuum is not present at hose No. 20, check vacuum lines to intake manifold for leaks or blockage. Repair or
replace as required.

4.

Disconnect lower vacuum hose from air control valve B, then raise engine speed to 3,500 RPM and close throttle suddenly several times.

5.

If vacuum is present, test is complete. If vacuum is not present, check air control valve B for proper operation.
