Thermal Vacuum Valve: Testing and Inspection
Except 4WD Wagon

1.

Ensure coolant temperature is below 104 degrees F on all models exc. 1985-87 Civic 1300 or 122 degrees F on 1985-87 Civic 1300.

2.

Pinch vacuum hose No. 26 at control box No. 1, then disconnect vacuum hose No. 26 from air valve.

3.

Start engine and quickly raise engine speed to 3500 RPM, then close throttle suddenly several times. Vacuum should not be present.

4.

If vacuum is not present, proceed to step 5. If vacuum is present, replace thermovalve D and repeat test.

5.

Allow engine to reach normal operating temperature.

6.

Raise engine speed to 3500 RPM, then close throttle suddenly several times. Vacuum should be present.

7.

If vacuum is present test is complete. If vacuum is not present, disconnect vacuum hose No. 19 and 20 from vacuum control valve and check for
vacuum. Vacuum should be present.

8.

If vacuum is present, replace vacuum control valve and repeat test. If vacuum is not present at hose No. 19, replace thermovalve D and repeat test.
If vacuum is not present at hose No. 20, check vacuum line to intake manifold for leaks or blockage. Repair or replace as necessary and repeat test.
