SRS Control Unit Replacement
BACKGROUND
A programming change was made to the SRS control unit shortly after the 2001 Civic coupe went into production. Because of this change, the earlier
SRS control unit is not compatible with the later side impact sensor, and the later SRS control unit is not compatible with the earlier side impact sensor.
There is no part number change.
If you replace only the SRS control unit or one of the side impact sensors in a vehicle in the affected VIN range, the SRS indicator will remain on and a
DTC 13-3 (driver's side impact sensor), DTC 14-3 (passenger's side impact sensor), or DTC 15-1 (faulty OPDS sensor) may be stored.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
If you need to replace an SRS control unit or a side impact sensor in a vehicle in the affected VIN range, determine the revision level of the component.
If it is an early unit, replace the SRS control unit and both side impact sensors. (American Honda's parts inventory has only the latest components.)

REPAIR PROCEDURE
Determine the revision level of the component you are replacing by checking the label on the component.
^
If the label part number is
SRS control unit - 77960-55P-A910-M1
Side impact sensor - 77970-55P-A911-M1
then you have an early production unit or sensor.
Replace the SRS control unit and both side impact
sensors with new components.
^
If the label part number is
SRS control unit - 77960-55P-A911-M1
Side impact sensor - 77970-55P-A912-M1
then you have a later production unit or sensor.
Replace only the component that has failed.
