Radiator: Service and Repair

Radiator Attachments

REMOVAL

1.

Remove radiator petcock and drain coolant into a suitable container.

2.

Remove coolant reservoir bottle and fill tube.

3.

Disconnect cooling fan electrical connector.

4.

Mark location of hood latch mechanism and remove.

5.

Remove upper radiator hose.

6.

Unbolt cooling fan shroud and remove fan assembly.

7.

Remove lower radiator hose.

8.

Disconnect thermosensor electrical connector.

9.

Remove radiator mounting bolts and carefully remove radiator from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1.

Install in reverse order of removal, remembering to install and tighten the drain plug.

Radiator Refilling And Bleeding

Loosen the air bleed bolt in the water outlet, then fill the radiator to the bottom of the filler neck with coolant mixture. Tighten the bleed bolt as
soon as coolant starts to run out of in a steady stream without bubbles.

3.

With the radiator cap off, start the engine and let it run until it is thoroughly warmed up (the fan goes on at least twice). If necessary, add coolant
mixture to bring the level up to the bottom of the filler neck.

4.

Fill coolant reservoir bottle to maximum mark.

5.

Put the radiator cap on and run the engine long enough to build pressure in the cooling system. Check for leaks.
