The warranty information covers three possible operations:
Operation 1: Repair done by dealer; windshield not broken during removal.
Operation 2: Repair done by dealer; windshield broken during removal.
Operation 3: Repair sublet to a glass repair shop.
Corrective Action
1.
Remove the windshield. See page 20-20 of the 1990 Civic Service Manual for the windshield removal procedure.
2.
Apply masking tape around the windshield area, as described in the service manual, then apply a layer of duct tape directly over the masking tape.
CAUTION: Make sure the layer of masking tape is wide enough to prevent the duct tape from sticking to the body; duct tape can pull paint up
when it's removed.
3.
Cover the dash to protect it from damage.
4.
With a one inch putty knife, cut into the sealer then peel it back with your hand or with pliers.
NOTE:
When cutting into the sealer, be sure to leave a layer of sealer at least 2 mm deep on the flange.
^
If properly-bonded, a layer of the sealer will stay evenly-stuck to the flange.
