If poorly-bonded, the sealer will pull off the flange and bring paint with it.
5.
Perform step 4 every few inches all the way around the windshield.

If the sealer is properly bonded around the entire flange, go to step 9.

If you find poorly-bonded sealer, go on to step 6.
6.
Carefully remove all loose paint from the affected areas with your putty knife.
CAUTION: For a proper bond of the new sealer, it is important to remove all loose paint. However, you must avoid scraping the flange down to
bare metal, or the new sealer won't bond and the flange will rust. If you accidently expose bare metal, be sure to cover the area with
touch-up paint before going on.
7.
Lightly sand the affected areas with 220 grit sandpaper, but avoid sanding to bare metal.
8.
Wipe the affected areas of the flange with lacquer thinner and a clean towel.
9.
Install the windshield according to the service manual procedure.
CAUTION: Let the car stand for at least 4 hours after glass installation.

1990 Civic LX/DX Windshield Mounting
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.
Honda Motor Co. Ltd. has determined that certain 1990 Civics fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 212, "Windshield
Mounting." Poor adhesion between paint layers due to improper formulation of certain paint batches and overspraying during the paint finishing process
may result in separation between paint layers. In the event of a collision or accident, it is possible for the windshield to become dislodged and for
unrestrained occupants to be ejected through the windshield opening.
Our records indicate that you own one of these cars. If you have not already been contacted by phone, please call your Honda dealer and make an
appointment with the Service Department to have the windshield removed and reinstalled to improve its mounting strength. The work will be performed
free of charge. Parts are now available. Although the procedure will take just over two hours, you may need to leave your car at the dealership overnight
to allow for proper curing of the windshield sealer.
If you are not satisfied with the service you receive from your Honda dealer, you may call the Honda Zone Office in your area, as shown on the map that
accompanies this letter.
If you believe American Honda or the dealer has failed to, or is unable to remedy the non-compliance in your car, free of charge, within a reasonable
period of time (60 days from the date you first contact your dealer for the repair appointment), you may submit a complaint to:
