Suspension Strut / Shock Absorber: Service and Repair
Front Strut

1.

Raise and support front of vehicle, then remove front wheels.

2.

Remove brake hose clamp attaching bolt.

3.

Place a suitable floor jack under lower arm and raise slightly to restrain lower arm. Ensure jack is positioned securely under lower control arm
at the ball joint to prevent torsion bar tension from causing steering knuckle to jump when shock absorber is removed.

4.

Remove shock absorber to lower arm pinch bolt, Fig. 1, then slowly lower jack.

5.

Remove upper shock absorber mounting nuts, then remove shock absorber.

6.

Reverse procedure to install. Torque upper shock absorber mounting nuts to 28 ft. lbs. and shock absorber to lower arm pinch bolt to 47 ft. lbs.
