Excessive Valve Train Noise (Supersedes 88-026, dated December 2, 1988)
SYMPTOM

Excessive valve noise even though the valve clearance has been adjusted.

VEHICLES AFFECTED
DIAGNOSIS

The proper clearance cannot be obtained when attempting to adjust the valves.

^

When on the low point of the cam, the intake valve rocker arms can be wobbled side-to-side due to excessive arm-shaft clearance.

^

The inside diameter of the rocker arms show signs of wear.

^

The rocker shaft shows evidence of rotating in the cam holder.
