Suspension - Rattle/Squeak From the Rear

SYMPTOM

A rattling or squeaking noise from the rear wheel-well area when cornering or driving over bumps.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The "silencer tubes" on the rear spring(s) may be loose or missing, allowing the upper coils to rub against each other.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

1.

Test drive the car to determine which side the noise is coming from.

2.

Remove and disassemble the damper assembly as described in the appropriate service manual.

3.

Remove any original silencer tubes, then clean the upper coils of the spring thoroughly.

4.

Using Honda Weatherstrip Adhesive or equivalent, attach three silencer tubes to the spring as shown.

5.

Reassemble and reinstall the rear damper assembly.
