Steering Wheel: Service and Repair
REMOVAL
1.
On models equipped with coded theft protection, disable coded theft protection system as described under MAINTENANCE
PROCEDURES/CODED THEFT PROTECTION DISARMING.
2.
On models equipped airbag, disarm airbag as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
3.
On models equipped airbag, remove two airbag assembly mounting screws using a T30 Torx bit, then the airbag assembly. When storing a
removed airbag assembly, ensure pad is facing upward.
4.
On models less airbag, remove steering wheel center pad.
5.
On all models, ensure steering wheel is in a straight ahead position, then remove steering shaft nut.
6.
Remove steering wheel by rocking it from side to side while pulling steadily with both hands.
INSTALLATION
1.
Install steering wheel on steering shaft in a straight ahead position.
2.
Torque the steering wheel mounting nut to 36 ft. lbs.
3.
On models equipped with airbag, install airbag assembly.
4.
On models less airbag, install steering column center pad.
5.
On all models, ensure proper operation of the horn and steering column then install center pad.
6.
Restore coded theft protection system and rearm airbag.
