ABS Light Comes On With DTC 15 and/or DTC 17 Stored
(Supersedes 98-041, dated April 28, 1998)
SYMPTOM
*The ABS light comes on, and DTC 15 or DTC 17 (wheel sensor open or shorted) or both are stored.*
PROBABLE CAUSE
One or both of the rear wheel speed sensors quit working.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the affected wheel speed sensor(s) with updated parts.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1.
Using the PGM Tester or the SCS service connector, retrieve the DTC(s) from the ABS control unit. DTC 15 indicates the right-rear wheel speed
sensor; DTC 17 indicates the left-rear wheel speed sensor.
2.
Referring to SB 97-033, ABS Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Connectors Reversed, make sure the wheel speed sensor harness connectors are
connected properly before continuing with this procedure.
3.
Disconnect the connector for the affected wheel speed sensor harness from the vehicle harness.
4.
Remove the two sensor harness mounting bolts, and disconnect the harness clips and the connector clip from their mounting brackets.

Remove and discard the sensor mounting bolts, then remove the sensor.
6.
Using the new mounting bolts, install the new sensor in the reverse order of removal. Torque all the mounting bolts to 9.8 Nm (7 lb-ft). Be careful
not to twist the harness.
7.
Erase the DTC(s) with the PGM Tester or by following the erasure procedure on page 19-39 of the 1997-99 CR-V Service Manual.*
