Noise From the Dashboard With A/C On

SYMPTOM
When the A/C is on, either with the engine running or shortly after being turned off, you hear a hissing, whistling, or moaning noise coming from the
dashboard on the passenger's side.

PROBABLE CAUSE
The expansion valve diaphragm vibrates excessively.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the expansion valve

Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1.

Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/ charging station (see page 22-59 of the 1997 - 99 CR-V Service Manual).

2.

Remove the evaporator (see page 22-48 of the service manual).

3.

Replace the expansion valve (see page 22-49 of the service manual).

4.

Reinstall the evaporator.

5.

Evacuate and recharge the A/C system (see page 22-61 of the service manual).

6.

Turn on the A/C, and make sure that the noise is gone.
