^ If the weatherstrip is not flattened or distorted, look for other possible causes of water leakage.
^ If the weatherstrip is flattened or distorted, go to step 2.
^ If the weatherstrip is torn or severely distorted, replace the weatherstrip (see page 20-83 of the 1997-99 CR-V Service Manual), then go to step 2.

Pull out the two upper corners of the weatherstrip to expose the tailgate body flange.

Cover the body flange with a shop towel to prevent scratching or damage to the metal, then use a pair of pliers to bend the body flange slightly
upward. Repeat this adjustment for the other side.
4.
Use touch-up paint to repair any paint areas that crack during body flange adjustment.
5.
Reinstall the weatherstrip.
6.
While sitting on the floor of the cargo area, lower the rear hatch glass, and make sure that the two hinge plates do not touch the weatherstrip.
^ If either of the hinge plates still touch the weatherstrip, repeat steps 2 through 5, and recheck.
^ If either of the hinge plates still touch the weatherstrip after readjusting the body flange, loosen the four rear hatch mounting nuts, and adjust the
rear hatch glass rearward approximately 2 mm ( see page 20-81 of the service manual. )
