Evaporator Temperature Sensor / Switch: Description and Operation
With the ignition switch in ON (II), the heater control panel receives battery voltage through the BLK/YEL wire at cavity 1. The heater control panel is
grounded by a BLK wire at G401.
When you push the A/C ON/OFF button with the ignition switch in ON (II), the heater control panel will ground the A/C ON input at cavity 5 ('97
model) or 27 ('98-'99 models) of the powertrain or engine control module (PCM or ECM) through the A/C pressure switch.
The PCM or ECM grounds the A/C compressor clutch relay when the ignition switch is in ON (II). The clutch relay then energizes the compressor
clutch, which engages and begins turning the compressor.
Evaporator Temperature Sensor
The evaporator temperature sensor is located on the evaporator housing. The evaporator temperature sensor turns off the A/C compressor clutch if the
temperature at the evaporator gets too cold. This prevents condensation from freezing on the evaporator fins and blocking the air delivery into the
passenger compartment. The blower motor will keep running when the sensor turns off the compressor.
