Vacuum Delay Valve: Testing and Inspection

Civic, CRX & 1985-87 Accord W/Carbureted Engine

1.

Disconnect hose at air vent cut-off diaphragm and connect suitable vacuum pump to hose.

2.

Apply vacuum to solenoid valve. Valve should not hold vacuum.

3.

Turn ignition switch on and apply vacuum. Valve should hold vacuum.

4.

If valve does not hold vacuum with ignition on, check for leaks at hose connections and correct as necessary.

5.

If vacuum system is satisfactory, check for voltage at vacuum holding solenoid valve.

6.

If voltage is available, replace valve and repeat test. If voltage is not available with ignition on, check control wiring to solenoid and repair as
needed. If wiring is satisfactory, substitute known good emission system control unit and retest.

7.

Start engine and run at idle. Vacuum should be available.

8.

If vacuum is not available, check for blockage in hose and correct as necessary.

9.

If vacuum is still not available, replace vacuum holding solenoid valve and repeat test.

10.

Turn ignition switch off. Vacuum should drop to zero.
