Throttle Body: Testing and Inspection

    Do not adjust throttle valve stop screw since it is preset at the factory.

1.

Disconnect canister vacuum hose at top of throttle body, then connect suitable vacuum gauge to the throttle body.

2.

Start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature, then check vacuum gauge with engine running at idle. Vacuum should not be
present.

3.

Slightly open throttle and check vacuum gauge. Vacuum should be present.

4.

Stop engine and check to ensure that throttle cable operates smoothly without binding or sticking.

5.

If vacuum is not as specified in steps 2 and 3, proceed as follows:

a. Check for excessive play or wear in throttle valve shaft.
b. Check for sticking or binding throttle valve lever at full closed position.
c. Check clearance between throttle stop screw and throttle lever are at full closed position.

6.

Replace throttle body if there is excessive play in throttle valve shaft or if shaft is binding or sticking.
